THE STORY

I take my pictures from the upstairs front seat of the bus.

This building is iconic — everyone seemed to get a fountain pen gift from there. I like to think that Joyce and Beckett bought pens there too.

This picture is full of energy and drama: electric light, condensation and the dreamy blur created by shooting through the bus window, contrasting with the Gothic details of the building.

For me, there’s a real Dublin feel to this picture — dirty, gritty, dramatic, fun, blurry, exciting, and a bit mad. It's nostalgic and evocative, but at the same time it has something slightly steampunk and chaotic about it.

And there are so many beautiful little details - the lilac will-o-the-wisp of reflection; the clear white shape of the shoe; the texture of the rainy street.
